3. Indications for Use.

Arterial hypertension, stable stenocardia including that of vasospastic (stenocardia of Princemetal). Initial hypercholesterinemia (elevated content of cholesterin).

4. Action

Amlodipine may aid to control hypertensive disease, likewise cholesterin level.

5. Posology and Administration

Both in case of hypertensive disease and in case of stenicardia a usual starting dose is 5 mg once a day. When needed and if the tolerability of the patient is normal the dose may be increased up to the maximal one, which is 10 mg daily. When there is arterial hypertension a supporting dose is 2.5-5 mg/daily. For stenocardia attacks prevention 10 mg /daily are used. When there is dilatation (non-ischemic) cardiomyopathy with a bad form of chronic heart failure the starting dose should be 5 mg once daily, if the tolerability is good the dose is to be increased to 10 mg once daily.
For hypocholesterinemia patients a dose is set up individually, in compliance with the initial cholesterin level. The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily. The maximal daily dose is 80 mg.

6. Counterindications

Active stage of liver diseases, pregnancy, lactation (breast-feeding), the women of reproductive age who do not apply reliable contraceptive agents, hypersensitivity to Amlodipine. Also the drug is counterindicated to children under 18 years of age.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

There have not been worked out any recommendation on Amlodipine dosage regimen for elderly people, therefore the drug for this group of patients should be administered with caution.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: proliferation of lumens of peripheral blood vessels, evidenced and long-term fall of arterial tension, tachycardia.

10. Side Effects

Headache, edemas, tiredness, drowsiness, nausea, pains in the stomach, flushing, heartbeat and dizziness, disturbed intestinal motility, arthralgia, asthenia, labored breath, swelling of gums, gynecomastia, impotency, increase of frequency of urination, change of mood, skin itching, rash, vision disturbances. Very seldom it is registered emergence of yellow illness or change in level of liver ferments.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Safety of Amlodipine therapy in pregnancy and lactation has not been determined. During pregnancy and lactation Amlodipine therapy is allowed only in the case when its use is absolutely justified and only a through calculation of the balance of favor/risk as the security of Amlodipine administration in the periods of pregnancy and lactation has not been determined.
