3. Indications for Use.

Infectious-inflammatory diseases, provoked by microorganisms sensitive to the drug, among them: diphtheria, whooping cough, trachoma, brucelliasis, legionnaires disease, angina, scarlatina, otitis, sinusitis, cholecystitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, syphilis. The drug treats infectious-inflammatory diseases provoked by causative agents (in particular staphylococcus). For outward application: common acne.

4. Action

Erythromycin is an antibacterial substance. It acts bacteriostatically. The action spectrum is gram-positive and some gram-negative microorganisms. Patients tolerate Erythromycin better than Penicilins, so the drug may be applied when a patient is allergic to Penicillins. Resistance of microorganisms to the drug develops quickly.

5. Posology and Administration

Posology and administration are to be set up individually in compliance with localization and severity of infection course and sensitivity of the causative agent. In adults the first dose is 400-600 mg; then it should be taken 200-400 mg every 6 hours. In severe infection course a daily dose may be 2-3 g. In children of less than 3 months of age the drug is administered in a dose of 20-40 mg/kg of the body mass/a day; whereas from 4 months to 18 years of age 30-50 mg/kg/a day. Repetition factor of administration is 4 times/daily. The treatment course is 5-14 days, after the symptoms of the disease disappear the drug should be administered the following 2 days. The drug is to be taken 1 hour before meal or 2-3 hours after meal.
Solution for outward application is used to smear impaired parts of the skin.
Ointment is to be put on an impaired region, whereas in eyes diseases it is put behind the lower lid. Doses, frequency and time duration of the use are to be determined individually.
Erythromycin is not recommended to rinse with milk or milk products.
